VISTAR RETINA CENTER, ROANOKE, VIRGINIA (2023)
Tasked to serve as the flagship for the southwest Virginia’s leading provider for Ophthalmology Services, the new facility will be primarily used for posterior, retina specialists. The design is based around a central Reception area and focused on minimizing patient/staff movement and wait time through distribution of examination rooms and intuitive “way-finding” with staff functions kept to the perimeter for access to natural light while patient rooms are located on the interior close to main Reception area. Construction using Insulating Concrete Forms (ICFs) helped to simplify construction and provides an inherent sound buffer from adjacent airport.

METIS PLAZA, ROANOKE, VIRGINIA (2017 - present)
Purchased in 2017, the facility previously used as a 1,000+ employee call center, had sat empty and unused for five years. Large, open, interior spaces, broken only by a strong structural grid, presented unique challenges when designing for a variety of building tenants including a gym, cafe, medical offices, attorney offices, insurance industry call centers, and a nursing school.
Shared access to views/daylighting along the perimeter, access to paths of egress, and tenant security provided unique challenges when repurposing a building constructed for a single tenant to one that now serves the multiple uses.
Subsequent work included improvements to the building exterior including covered canopies for dining outside of cafe and elevator addition to serve as primary entrance for nursing school.
