CUNDIFF RESIDENCE, BENT MOUNTAIN, VIRGINIA (2021)

With the goal of designing an architecturally relevant, three-bedroom, three and one-half bath house with a minimal construction budget to emphasize the site and views of the Roanoke Valley below, the aesthetic is established through thoughtful use of standard materials and construction. Simple, man-made form stands in contrast to the natural, pastoral landscape. The 2,144 sq. ft. interior consists of a combined space for entertaining focused on views to the north with bedrooms along the back wall for privacy and comfort.

COMPETITION - AARP Community Challenge Grant (2023)

2023 AIA/CoR ADU 17 - Schematic Floor Plans/Elevations

In 2023, AIA Blue Ridge and the City of Roanoke were awarded a AARP Community Challenge Grant to host a design competition for Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) design in order to have preapproved ADU plans for the public to use free-of-charge, making the creation of ADUs more attainable for everyone within the community.

The basis of the design concept for this detached, single-story ADU was a project begun in the Spring of 2013 to construct a workshop on a remote parcel of land in Roanoke, County. The resulting structure reflects a desire for simplicity, ease of construction and connection with the site.

The award-winning design may be easily modified to fit the site, reflect Owner intent and compliment the aesthetic of the primary structure.
